Cecil County 4-H Youth Development Program

The 4-H program is for youth ages 8-18 as of January 1st of the current year.  The 4-H clover program is for youth ages 5-7 as of January 1st of the current year. The Cecil County 4-H Youth Development Program continues to grow. The county program currently has 21 4-H clubs, 6 clover groups, and 3 special interests groups. 4-H youth attended local club meetings, participate in educational activities, and work with their projects. 4-H activities are held throughout the entire year.

In January, youth complete and hand in their 4-H project books.  In March, youth are at 4-H Achievement Night where members are recognized for past year’s project work. Winterfest is held in March where 4-Hers have an opportunity to attend classes that gave an introduction to many of the projects available. Cecil County Breeders’ Fair is held in June. The one-day show is open to youth of Cecil, Kent, Queen Anne’s, and Harford counties in Maryland, New Castle County, Delaware, and Chester County, Pennsylvania where 4-Hers exhibit their animal projects. At the end of June, 4-H Horse Hoopla is held where 4-H'ers carrying horse projects participate in three days of learning about equine related activities and honed their equestrian skills. The 4-H'ers premier event for the summer is the Cecil County Fair. Many youth exhibited their projects during the ten-day fair in July. Another well-attended activity is the five-day 4-H Camp, which takes place in August. As summer draws to a close, many of our youth head to the Maryland State Fair where 4-Hers participate in indoor exhibits, animal shows, and on judging teams. In October, 4-H youth promote the 4-H program and agriculture at 4-H Harvest Farm Day at Kilby Cream. In December we conclude the year with a highly successful 4-H Benefit Auction to raise funds for our county and club programs.  Other Activities our youth participate in include:
